Cleverly7, Campbell has no ties to the Big 10 as a player or coach. He currently coaches in the Big 12 for Iowa State University.
The University of Arkansas, Fayetteville would be very, very lucky to land Matt Campbell as it’s next head coach. Campbell has elevated every football program he’s ever coached.
Check the record, he kicked the sh-t out of BB and Arkansas as the HC at Toledo in 2015, and was ranked as high as #20 nationally during that season.
Seriously doubt Long would hire him, however, because it makes to much sense.
If I’m looking for a head coach here’s my list in no particular order:
Scott Frost - ucf head coach with top offensive numbers
Chad Morris - young up and coming head coach currently at SMU
Mike Norvell - Memphis head coach
Charlie Strong - Arkansas roots and good recruiter
Greg Schiano - proven head coach at Rutgers and currently coordinator
Brent Venables - current coordinator
Matt Campbell - he’s winning at Iowa State… head coach
Frank Wilson - maybe way too soon for a big head coaching gig but he’s someone to watch
Mario Christobal - top recruiter for Alabama and currently coordinator and o line coach at Oregon.
I don’t necessarily want a known name. I thought CBB was a steal of a hire because of his track record. I really knew nothing about him before but I think he lost his focus. I think winning football games and building a program became secondary to being the celebrity of Arkansas. I’m not sure he can recover at this point if he shifted his focus back.
Look at Tech. Spike Dykes, 6, 7, 8, & 9 wins. Leach 6, 7, 8, & 9 wins. Dykes most wins came when 11 games regular season and a bowl game. Leach played 12 regular seasons and a bowl. Now, that one year for Leach was an 11 win year, but it only one year out of his super coaching career. Which is 17 years. He’s done it once. The rest of the time he was no better than Dykes. Bret has done it twice, plus a 10 win season.
First things first, let’s get the U-Haul trucks pulled up the driveway of the Bielema’s, load them up and get them out of the Natural State ASAP!
Once that is done then we can all start the speculation of who would be the best next hire as HC to lead the Razorback Football Program out of the dumpster that Coach Bielema is responsible for putting it in.
Any Athletic Director worthy of being called one has to understand that this type of program doesn’t lead to sustainable revenue streams continuing to be counted upon. Mr. Long needs to do what any reputable AD would do given the lack of progress at this point and make a change in the leadership of the Football Program.
Leach was coach at Tech for 10 seasons, 5 of which were 9 or more win seasons. The 10 years prior to that Tech had one 9 win season, with a win percentage of .54. Leach’s win percentage at Tech was .66, averaging 8 wins a season. Since Leach was fired Tech has a win percentage of .51 averaging 6 wins a year. This is Leach’s 6th season at WSU, to date he has won 36 games. WSU won only 20 games in the six years before Leach.
You may want to relook at your facts. He never won 9 games 5 times at tech. He had three 9 win seasons and one 11 win season. Dykes also had 7; 8, & 9 win seasons. Just like Leach. Leach isn’t as good as you think. He also is known to abuse players. Yep, win at all costs, screw the players. That’s what we need. But, I’m not surprised by you drooling over him.
I’ll break it down for you, AGAIN. Prior to Mike Leach, Spike Dykes was the HC at Texas Tech. In the ten years prior he won 64 games. That avgd to 6.4 wins a season. His most wins was nine. Leach won 11 games once in his career. That was in 08. You take out that year he avgd 7.3 wins, playing 12 games a year instead of 11. Yep, looks like an incredible improvement. At WSU (I won’t count this year because it’s not finished) he has avgd 5.8 wins a season.
Bret has avgd 9.7 wins at Wisky and 6.25 here (again this season ain’t over yet, number could/will change). Why would a TRUE HOG FAN want to go backwards. But continue with your Leach Love, the real fans and hopefully Long will look for a GOOD Coach.
so you can magically just discredit seasons just to push your agenda? If you take out Dykes’ two 9 win seasons in 14 years he has averaged only 5 wins a year? Do you see how stupid your argument is?
In our history, recruiting in Texas has been the life blood of our program. We need a HC who has shown he can win at a school that doesn’t have the same resources that we do. We need a coach who can bring an offense that is more wide open than we run now. We need a coach who has the Texas connection to jumpstart our recruiting in a Texas.
That coach is Chad Morris! He wants to leave SMU because they have not committed to improve their facilities so he would be very responsive if we would just call.
Wrong again. If you take the 13 years prior (not 14) and take out his 9 win seasons (2) he still avgd 6 wins. See HOW STUPID YOUR ARGUMENT IS. Congrats. You just don’t understand you want a crappy coach. You’re inflating his numbers he did not win 9 or more 5 times at Tech.
