Stop the talk about Bobby Petrino

We are apparently beset with trolls who are determinedly continuing to worship at the alter of His Hindendedness, who are persistently drawing attention to situational parameters of events which transpired years ago. Some of them are disparaging the choice of program direction subsequently pursued and implemented by The University Of Arkansas hierarchy in the wake of that momentous regime change. Why? What beneficial purpose is being served by continuing to sing the praises of a former Razorbacks head coach who has long since relocated and moved on? Why are you so dead set on refusing to move on, continuing to harp and carp on pivotal decisions and changes of the past, sourly denigrating and castigating the highly respected heir to Razorback football fortunes to whom the reigns have currently passed? Would it perchance be, by any measure, somewhat gratifying to your incensed funky pique if we should all resolve to face Louisville three times daily and pay homage to the departed Magnificent Monarch by prostrating ourselves upon the ground and reciting 100 Hail Petrinos while simultaneously assiduously banging our noggins upon the turf and fingering a necklace comprised of miniature motorcycles?

Good grief, people; LET IT GO!!!

Yes, I know

That I’m not a pro

At composition and verse

Hopes for improvement remain very low

And - likely - it shall get worse

As I’ve said in the past, talking to some Petrino fans on here is like talking to a Red Guard about Mao during the Cultural Revolution. Ken Hatfield won the highest percentage of games coached of any Razorback coach in history. He also came the closest to winning a NC of anyone in the past 30 years. Why don’t people constantly whine about him not being the coach anymore?

I’m unaware of any defamation dirt ever being unearthed vilifying Hatfield. He was - and IS - by all accounts a very respected, moral straight shooter, in addition to being a very fine coach.

I rather heavily tend to suspect that those who are most vigorous in their persistent drum beating for Petrino are unceasingly and belligerently bemoaning and protesting his firing out of a militant sense of aversion to anything that smacks of moral scruples or character behavioral judgement. I surmise that these vehement carpers most likely repudiate the significance of any moral constraints or inhibitions imposed by those of us in society who steadfastly value such constraints, and they are demonstrably determined to refute and trash the character standard considerations which figured prominently in Petrino’s ouster. They have the inherent right and the personal liberty to eschew such values and considerations for themselves; they do NOT have the right to insist that the rest of us revamp and relinquish OUR moral standards and values., looking only to on- field results, oblivious to all other factors and considerations.

Well, it was thirty years ago, almost. Kenny, and I think he was a great coach, ran a conservative boring offense, you could say the Arkansas tradition. Even Holtz ran the veer and was pretty conservative. Petrino had the wide open offense and won 21 games in his last two years, er, less than 5 years ago. Hatfield is not currently making playoff headlines with the current favorite for the Heisman at QB and beating top tier programs by 40 points. Might have something to do with it.

Maybe its the common core math, but CBB’s first season here was 2013. This being the 2016, that means this is his 4 season here, not 5 years. Like I said, you may be using that new common core math, but it still adds up only to his 4th year.

We have about 1/2 dozen people very vocal at least in the commentary sense about one issue. The success of Petrino at another program in another conference. A conference weaker and very remote to the Western Division of the SEC where the Hogs are located. A person could ask. Does anything that happens at Louisville effect the Hogs? The answer is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! Arkansas does not even recruit in Kentucky. However from reading those comments of that 1/2 dozen about the Louisville coach thrown all over this board. A person would think Arkansas is playing Louisville next weekend for the NC instead of just a regular season game with Texas A&M.

That strange situation I just described on this board is easy for me to analyze. These people are far more Petrino fans than Arkansas Razorback fans. Most have been here since the Petrino firing nearly five years ago patiently hoping for Petrino success on the football field at the P5 level. Their only slight displeasure is their Petrino celebrations here are somewhat blunted by the Hog’s success. They are here to throw guff in the face of people who belittled Petrino for his actions here. One of them said that in that Louisville thread that was deleted last weekend. Those type actions are just the description of trolling anywhere on the internet. They are Petrino fans and therefore Louisville fans. The Louisville board is where they belong.

Ah yes, in between CBP and CBB there was John L Smith, currently the head coach for the Kentucky State Thorobreds, current record 0-3, combined points for/against, 17-91.

Excuse me he got here in December 2012. Okay 4 years. My point is still valid. My argument wasn’t about number of years. It’s about success. Read it again since it appears you missed the point.

Some among us obviously hold a very narrow, highly subjective, tightly focused definition of the term “success”.

Petrino is currently enjoying what is undoubtedly considered to be an enviable current record of success at Louisville. I won’t quibble or quarrel with such an assessment; that would be ludicrous.

However, should Arkansas inexplicably seek - and secure - the return of the redoubtable Petrino to Fayetteville for a newly tenured run at the Razorbacks helm, - - - - - I would most emphatically NOT regard such a transpiration as a “successful” move and a step forward on the part of the Hogs.

It’s a matter of perspective. Mine is rather set in stone; so is that of the dissenters. Indications do not augur well for the realization of their hopes and aims coming to fruition in regard to this disputed old issue.

I like the Hatfield offense. Not too many run the triple option out of the flexbone (hambone) anymore. People would get upset when he would shut it down once we would get up by a couple of tds, but we did win a lot. When I look at the teams that win the NC and Super Bowl every year, they are pretty much always teams who can physically dominate the line of scrimmage, run the ball, and play great defense. I don’t recall finesse wind open offenses winning championships very much. Given comparable talent, the more physical teams usually win. That’s why we won a lot with Petrino for two years but got dominated by the more physical Alabama and LSU teams who’s defense wasn’t going to let a finesse one dimensional offense beat them.

Preaching to the choir on the Hatfield offense, I go back to the days of Jack Mildren and James Street, JC Watts, Holieway, never forget those guys. Unfortunately, everybody didn’t feel that way, including Frank. One of my favorite teams to watch is Air Force…and I won’t miss a play of Georgia Tech/Clemson Thursday nite.

I think Georgia Tech runs the flexbone. I probably wouldn’t watch them much at all if they weren’t one of the few teams to run that offense. It’s interesting to watch when it’s working as it’s designed to. A couple of years ago Auburn made the NC game running a type of run heavy option. I guess a lot of teams run a spread option now, but I always have a fondness for the wishbone variety of it. I suppose most teams today want to be able to throw for a lot of yards and so have abandoned it in order to get the better passing qbs to come play for them.

Friends,
Once again TawTam ADMONISHES SOMEONE TO “read his post again since they apparently missed his point.”

The reason Tawtam’s “read it again” statements are so funny…is that he tells that to someone like WorldSeriesofPoker or to SilverFox who have so eloquently and thoroughly DEMOLISHED Tawtam’s feeble reasoning and statements.

QUESTION: Does anybody ever go back and reread Tawtam’s previous posts again (seeking his higher wisdom that we all continually fail to grasp)? Yet he still always admonishes the rest of us to do? REREAD!

It blows my mind that he thinks anyone would voluntarily read again one of his 95% complaining and belly-aching posts!

Silverfox, please dumb it down. Your diatribe really gets boring after just one paragraph. Eloquence and flowering words look great in a lecture hall, but for godsakes man, this is a message board. I am pretty sure you can get your message across with smaller words.

And then I might enjoy your posts even more!

I think both coaches are superb at coaching football. That which separates BB from BP in huge manner is that BB also coaches young men.BB teaches character by example. He teaches discipline by consistency. He prepares his athletes for life after football by demanding class attendance as noted with remarkable overall goal.He honestly loves and cares for his players. He is head and shoulders above BP as a complete head coach. We are extremely fortunate he is our head coach.

Well said , Sackett, well said.

Well said sir

I extend my sincere apology.

Bravo Taw Bravo… People here are NOT going to get it though. They have all been brainwashed by the good old boy network that many had hoped left with Frank. IT DID NOT !! SO you are going to continue to hear the same lies about how the cotton bowl would NEVER let Bobby come back lol… OR about how BB cares about his players and Bobby doesnt… All lies straight from the good old boy network.

Truth is that the good old boys of Frank Broyles and the Allen canning company and Jim Lindsey and all of them were seeing that Bobby was winning the fans over. And they feared that if he won a title that he would FINALLY have the power to rid the fans of all of their constant interfering. Look if you dont believe that the gobn is running things and controling the media think again. They went and got them another yes man in the proud tradition of Ken Hatfield, Houston Dale Nutt and company. They were NOT willing to risk loosing control of the program to Petrino. Don’t believe me ? Look at the stranglehold Frank has had on the program over his one “disputed” title decades ago… They knew all along what Petrino was doing. And when he had his accident they said do things our way or go. And Bobby has way too much character for that. Thats right I said CHARACTER. BB has zero character. He’s for sell to the highest bidder. He went from being BA’s yes man to being the GOBN"s at Arkansas. Thats why EVERYTHING looks just like it didnt under Nutt. Oh now we have a short passing game. But everything else is exactly the way Nutt ran it.

You’re wasting your time on the Hogs. Until the gobn is really gone great minds like Petrino aren’t walking through that door. There is NOTHING wrong with taking a better job. And honestly there is NOTHING wrong with cheating. People do it. Monogamy is a lie. People aren’t built to stay with the same person forever. Thats a load of religious hooey. So its no surprise that religious people are spewing it.
