SEC Tournament

That’s the General. If you disagree with him, he just screams ‘you are wrong’ and ‘prove it’. I think our won/loss record proves everything we need to know. Yes, we win 20+ games somewhat regularly, but we always have double digit losses to go with that, and as a result, never get a good tournament seed. Mikey has never taken us to the second weekend of the tournament, so I don’t know what other ‘proof’ he needs.

All you guys who piss and moan after every loss and whine that Anderson needs to go. Just who out their is your major upgrade? Lets go over some coaches who have been fired or is on the hot seat. Kevin Stallings- Finished the season without winning a single conference game. Kevin Ollie- Won a National Title ( With someone else’s players.) But has gone down hill ever since. Tubby Smith- Again won a National Title the same way Ollie did. But has struggled every place he’s gone. Mark Fox- Every Anderson detractors man crush, a good mid major coach, but could get it done at Georgia. Or how about the great Rick Pitino? A proven winner. So what about the Prostitutes. Or maybe we could get another up and comer in the mold of Stan Heath or John Pelphrey? Well, what would all you “The grass is always greener somewhere else.” would recommend as a step up from Anderson?

Quite the contrary, I invite differing opinions. I just ask people why they think the way they do and expect a coherent reason. You give me one and I usually don’t say anything but absorb the message. But you are right that I don’t like it when fans give vain, vague, or ambivalent points of view about Anderson or the basketball team. And many hog fans don’t really understand what they want or understand what Anderson does. As to your views, some are legit for THIS YEAR. I would tell you that I would agree with you if these were consistent issues year after year, but their not. Normally, we have one of the top defense in the conference, but I’ll agree that this year we were spotty at best most of the season. For the offense, I don’t see your point considering we are one of the top offensive teams in the league in every category. Ignoring the fact that we consistently win with this coach, I don’t see why anyone can justify wanting to go another direction. Year after year, I see fans make all these blanket accusations about Anderson only to have Anderson destroy their point. Does that stop them? No, they’ll just find another reason to dump on him or the team. Which makes me question the real reason for their disapproval of Anderson. As to it being Senior laden, so? Having a lot of seniors guarantees nothing. Half our seniors are JUCOS who haven’t been with the team for 4 years. Can you imagine if Barford and Macon were here for all 4 years? Do I see the team trending upwards after the seniors leave? Hard to say. At certain positions, yes. There are a lot of variables with next years team that we haven’t seen in a couple of years. We’ve got solid role players in Jones and Bailey coming back(Jones could break out). We’ve got a true PG that transferred in going to be eligible. We’ve got good freshman coming in, some very good defensive players(back to your defense comment). If Garland is cleared, he’s a legit scoring threat from every thing I’ve read or heard from those in the know. And especially, if Gafford stays, then we have a real shot to be a good team again. The SEC next season too is going to be stacked, even more than this year. Tennessee, Mizzou, and MSU will return legit players. Kentucky, LSU, Vandy, and Florida recruited very well also. And I don’t get the how many years comment. What is it that you want?

I won’t speak for others, but what I want is a trip to the second weekend in the NCAAs. That only takes two wins, and Mikey has never done it for us.

Your last comment has been the crux of a lot of my opinions. If people don’t like Anderson, that’s fine. I could care less if they like him or the way he coaches. BUT, he’s winning. He might not win as much as some think he should, heck, I thought we should have won more games this year, but WE STILL WON and are going to the tourney. Firing a winning coach is idiotic and automatically thinking a change would be better is equally idiotic. Mizzou was so glad when Anderson left and especially when Haith came in and had the season he did with Anderson’s players. Look at them now or even the last 5 years of their team. SMH

I just wish he could win two games in the NCAAs and get us to the second weekend for once

It’s about matchups. Texas has a better inside guy than we do. No offense meant toward Gafford, but Bamba is an absolute stud. They also play the same style we do. We won’t run them out of the gym. It’s very realistic we lose to the 11 seed (Texas) as a 6 seed. However, about a week ago, we were projected a 6 seed against St Bonaventure, the Wichita St in the round of 32. I have zero doubt we’d be in the Sweet 16. We aren’t quite good enough to compete with teams like KY and Duke and UNC and Kansas. But I think next years team (better talent, less experience, IMHO) if they stay for 2-3 years will be able to. I know many want it now, but think back to before Anderson got here. I remember many saying they just wanted to go to the dance every year.

Fair enough, but we’re still only talking about winning two games. I guess for us to make it to the second weekend, one of the top three seeds in our region will have to lose in the first round, then maybe we have a chance.

What will be your excuses 5-6 years down the road? MA is his own worst enemy. If he would get him some help on the bench and not be such a hard head about changing his scheme with the times he could improve his overall coaching. What 6 years and no change? At half time against SC they were interviewing and he said he thought the offense was playing good!!! They were stinking it up and he can’t see the forest for the trees.

Not near as bad as Chris Beard

Who wants Chris Beard?

We’re definitely better off than we were with the two prior coaches. I also know that starting over with a new coach is tiresome with no guarantees. It’s just tough living in mediocrity after the earlier Nolan years. Some of the most exciting memories I have were during the Sutton era. We were extremely competitive no matter who we played. I’m just an old goat wanting to get back to the "glory days ".

Here is the issue. Many don’t understand how good we were from 75-2002. Look at our all time records. The only NC, majority of FF, Sweet 16’s, and tournament appearances came during those years. Mike is the only coach besides those two that have taken us to more than two tournaments
