Chad Morris [Update]

[quote=“Hogbacker”]
Don’t think at this time that there’s anyone available more capable than Chavis, if possible we need to go ahead and pull the trigger if he’s interested. The worst that can happen is that it doesn’t work and if that happens you find someone else and move on, we were promised the best and I don’t see who else CCM could be talking about. Welp, Schaap says it is, Bo says it ain’t. Neither have ever been right before, so we will see history with whoever it is

No news flash here, but I just read where Smashmouth doesn’t feel our chances with Venables to be a “pipe dream” as per his post on another thread. Should his Dallas area sources be correct and given the timing of the way the DC search seems to be playing out, Smash may be onto something. Regardless, the groundwork Chad Morris is putting together in Texas with recruiting is impressive, already. With the right DC, the program may jump start a lot sooner than later.

Gerry Bohanon is said to be making his decision involving a school on or about, 20 December. With the new offense and potential to go with it, I like our chances.

The rumor train has John Chavis close to being on his way to Arkansas.

I wouldn’t decry this choice; but I have held out hope that this new infusion of coaching talent and reordering of perspectives would incorporate vibrant younger, sharper, up-and-coming, ambitiously-cutting-edge, new generation coaches - - instead of staid, conservative “old guard”, tired old warriors who are a bit “long in the tooth” - - - and are primarily focusing upon their impending retirement.

Old coaches never retire, they just fade away…

Rumor train continues to chug along with the “Chief” on board and on his way to Arkansas.

Whether the glass is half full or empty, Chavis would be considerable upgrade over the past five years, in my opinion.

On a different note, the BB guys have looked impressive. We should know more on Saturday.

As already said by many, the Chief hasn’t been very impressive in recent times and A&M’s bowl game was a defensive meltdown, possibly forcing Chad Morris to take a closer look. On the other hand, the ESPN guy makes an interesting analogy in favor of Chavis in the link below:

Regardless, I would think a decision should be coming soon in light of recruiting.

Personally, I like the new staff and retaining Barry Lunney was a smart idea, as well. We have the skill set with existing players and some hard work in the offseason in both the weight room and spring ball to be considerably better on offense. With the schedule, if Chavis can make the defense somewhat better and special teams can impove, there will be opportunity to win 7 or more games next season, in my opinion.

On a different note, I have never been much of a Nick Saban fan, but hats off to him for benching Jalen Hurts and starting a true freshman quarterback in the second half of Monday’s night game. That took some stones. As I recall, due to an injury, Brandon Allen could barely throw the football in Columbia several years ago. Yet, I think he played the entire game. For a coach supposedly concerned with player safety issues, I’m not so sure how you reconcile the same with what happened in Missouri.

A very favorable crystal ball projection from Danny Sheridan on Chad Morris and company. Hope he’s right.
