Like who? I can think of a handful that made a difference with him: Trey Flowers, Jonathan Williams, Brandon Allen, and Keon Hatcher, but other than maybe a few more, he didn’t have much to run his system.
Petrino won games when I thought we had no chance and got us ranked as high as #3. That is proof enough to me to say he is great.
It is not his fault because he is doing his best and as well as the average SEC coach would do which is about all we can expect. We lucked out getting Petrino and that is not likely to occur again for decades. Without a super coach like Petrino, we don’t win more because we don’t have a great recruiting base. Therefore, on average, we can’t get outstanding players (just average SEC players) so it is no one’s fault that we don’t win more.
Great post. The problem I have is if you don’t expect better you don’t get better. In other words if you accept it that’s what you will always be.
Saban has only lost to 9 different coaches since 2008. 5 of those coaches have won NCs. I think giving CBB more than 4 years to accomplish this feat might be appropriate given the monumental task that it is.
He was though. Why fire a guy who just won 21 games in two years for hiring his girlfriend ? So what ? Who cares ? Its not like he was ignoring his guys rapeing young women like Art Briles. Its not like it wasn’t consensual. Why make a big deal out of him hiring her ? Politicians do it every day. Women are given jobs all over the US every single day for who they are sleeping with and raises as well. So what ? Why fire OUR best coach since Broyles over that ?
Maybe there’s more to it. Arkansas would NEVER allow a guy like Nick Saban to pull his stunts and tirades. The wealthy people ruining our program would NEVER allow it. So they stopped it before it happened. How much support would Jeff have had for firing Petrino had it waited until after he won a title ? Think about it.
The fans were the only people screwed here. And they do nothing.
But BP couldn’t beat BAMA even when he had the better team against SABAN’S worst team at Fayetteville.
I’m not sure who had the better teams. But a LOT of people get beat by Saban. IF that and hiring your girlfriend is the worst thing you can say about a coach who goes 21-5 at ARKANSAS of all places. Then firing him might end up making you look foolish. And it has. Arkansas looks ignorant now.
