I think you could be right although I hope it’s Tommy T. who is hired as the AD. I think we must have an AD in place before we hire a new coach so hopefully this week we will hear something.
In my opinion, if the Gus Bus comes to Fayetteville for anything other than a visit…Razorback football will be in a trash heap along with the NFL. It’s time to put the past behind us and move on to a new chapter.
I have several significant concerns about our HC selection process:
(1) Those quality HCs who might be available may not be willing to consider an offer from Arkansas.
(2) Those coaches who are desirous of securing the Arkansas HC position may not be of sufficient quality to benefit Arkansas.
(3) The Arkansas Powers That Be may not be astutely capable of discerning which available football coach is most likely capable of vastly improving Arkansas football fortunes and exhibiting the understanding, the tact, the perseverance, the dedication and the determination to secure the services of that very best available prospect.
If a Hollywood movie casting agent had happened to have been obliged to select from among “The Three Stooges” - “Larry”, “Moe” and “Curly” - for the lead role in a new “love story drama”, simply because “Clark Gable”, “Gregory Peck” and “Robert Redford” were not available at the time, I very seriously doubt that the proposed new movie would have quite the desired appeal or impact to the public, - - and that the salary allocated to the “Stooge” who made the final cut would be essentially squandered, with little or nothing to show for the expenditure in the way of results.
Gus - plain and simple - has a high opinion of himself and will want to be the savior and redeemer of Arkansas Football. He’s headed to Arkansas regardless of whether he wins or loses this year.
Win - and there’s nothing left to do to accomplish at Auburn. Lose and the big money players will pay him to move on so they can look for someone that can beat Alabama.
It’s just time. He knows he’s running on fumes in Auburn - win or lose - and the door is open at UA.
Arkansas has paid a price - - and continues to pay a price - - for unwise football HC selections. Part of that price does not involve money. More than money and/or ego should be involved in a two-way football HC hiring process.
To make a misguided or non vetted HC selection is regrettable - albeit at least partially understandable. “To err is human”, It is disheartening for everyone affected by such decisions, but such is the fickle nature of fortune in life.
However, for highly placed, highly motivated and highly paid Powers That Be to continue to commit such boneheaded fiascoes - and to subsequently be apparently bumfuzzled and perplexed as to why their “perfect solution” turned out to have failed by a country mile to evince “perfection” - bluntly repudiating the vaunted sage judgment of the blue-blooded Powers That Be - is inexplicable to yours truly.
A drunken, spastic monkey shooting up on peanut butter could equal (or better) the performance level record of the Arkansas Head Football Coach Selection Committee of late.
Come ON, people! Get it right this time; - - - PLEASE!!!
Silver, I don’t know which coaches you’re posting about, but the most recent football head coaches were selected by former AD Long. (Petrino, Smith and CBB).
I neither question - nor quibble with - your statement. My salient point above is that WHOEVER the persons are (I seriously doubt that the past HC determinations have all rested upon the shoulders of any single individual) who have effectively pulled the trigger in the final determinations of the recurring new Arkansas Football HC position “revolving door” replacement process have obviously been somewhat remiss in doing their homework prior to settling upon several of the candidates who have inherited the HC job. The SPOTLIGHT may not upon those powerful decision makers, - - but the ONUS is now certainly upon them to get it right this time, - - - - if they wish to avoid thoroughly hacking off and alienating a sizable proportion of the Arkansas Razorbacks fan base - - - - - - - - - - - - (meaning $$$$$$$).
You are right. These decisions are made by the board. Then the spotlight falls onto the president and AD to hire that person. Which, is how all universities operate. At least those with large football ties. But this same board is always shielded from the controversial aspects of such as well.
