Saw a Facebook meme pointing out that Eric Dickerson got his season-record rushing total in 16 games, and Barkley is short of that in 16 games. Ended with something like “Leave it to the Eagles to lie and claim a record.”
But by that same reckoning, I wonder if Earl Campbell’s 1,934 in 15 games in 1980 is really tops? I don’t know how many yards Dickerson had through 15 games.
Kind of silly, really–I remember when Roger Maris’s then 61-home run record used to carry an asterisk.
The meme probably came from a Cowboy fan–though I hear Dickerson himself is kind of displeased.

You can only play the game as it is today. Does his rushing record still count cause he didn’t use a leather helmet?
Do MLB records count cause of the DH?
It’s a silly argument because times change and life goes on.
But, talking heads have to stir the pot. A shame they don’t have to lick the spoon

Records should be average per game. 12 game records are easily broken in 16 games.
Dickerson’s last game in 84 was 107. His total (the record) was 2105. That means after 15, he had 1998. So, he broke the record
He would have also beat Jim Brown’s 12 game record by 9 yards
