Moving Forward

I could site several specifics for the General but he would not accept any of them from a lowly PFC like me. I was afraid this would happen when we hired MA, not a very good coach and would not be fired because of the past. He will have to be cut loose or just put up with him until he wants to retire. I don’t think he could find another job. Time has passed him by. I would wait until the end of the season to make a change and then I would go hire a good young coach that wants to make a name for themselves.

Instead of the same old diatribe of “Anderson needs to go”, here are some things the team and Anderson need to address. First, Macon, Barford, Thompkins, Cook, and Thomas needs to play and LEAD like the seniors they are. These are not just kids, but young men who have been playing basketball for years. It’s time for the seniors to step up and lead. If Macon and Barford want to play at the next level, they need to step up their games. As for Anderson, if most teams in the SEC Know what style of play you are bringing, He needs to adjust and adapt to their game plan against the team. Everyone in the SEC has great athletes. So simple trying to wear the other team down doesn’t work all that well anymore. Anderson also need to FINALLY REALIZE what a TRUE point guard is and what they can do. He needs to stop trying to convert shooting guards into point guard. Lastly, Anderson needs to understand that power forwards and centers are not just filler on the court. Recruit more than just one who can defend and score.

Thanks for sticking to the topic. I agree with most of this to some extent. The thing that scares me for next year is we will only have one guy over 6’8 and that’s Gafford. But we’ll just have to see.

I thought Henderson was 6’9, and Chaney is 6’8, not 6’7 with shoes making him 6’8 ala Dustin Thomas

I believe and it shows we are undisciplined and fundamentally unsound at times and we don’t value ball possession enough. It’s not that I think this team can’t come back and finish strong but I’m not sure what to think with the erratic play at times. WPS

ESPN says Henderson is 6’8 but that could be wrong. Same for Chaney.

I’ve said this over and over again. The blue print for success is to replicate the type of roster that Nolan started putting together after former UNLV and NBA great Larry Johnson told him during our game in Fayetteville “ Coach you better find yourself some men”.
Nolan took that comment to heart and did exactly that with Corliss, the best power forward in the country, then added McDonalds All American Darnell Robinson 6’11” 245lbs, Lee Wilson 6’11” 235lbs, Dwight Stewart 6’9”. Now he had some real men in the block to score, defend, block shots and just get physical when the game called for it.
So now we had size, speed and skill all throughout the roster.
Cory Beck, a true point guard that could facilitate the game on offense and lock down on defense.
Clint McDaniel, he played defense inside your wasteband.
Scotty Thurman, silky smooth Small forward that could drive to the bucket or just as easily knock down the 3.
Dwight Stewart, 6’9” with bulk, soft hands, great basketball IQ and could get them ball at the free throw line and make some sweet assists or sink the 15-18 footer.
We can’t forget the key 3 point specialists in Al Dillard and Davor Romac.
Roger Crawford simply crapped and played hard every minute he hit the floor much like McDaniel.

This 2018 roster has a few of these pieces to the blueprint, but if we honest this roster doesn’t come close in measuring up to that Championship roster and until Coach Anderson is able to assemble that roster he will never hang any type of banner in BWA under his tenure. If he does assemble that type of roster he may have a chance to hang a banner of some kind, perhaps an SEC banner which at this point would be a great accomplishment in the near future.
