DC and OC changes?

Not sure about the source, but Saturday Down South is reporting that candidates are emerging for the DC position and that Dan Enos has been approached by some NFL teams and other college programs. Happy to see Smith go and wish him the best. I like Enos and his work with the quarterbacks, though his play calling was suspect at times this year, in my opinion.

Interesting article.

It mentions Bob Diaco, the guy I heard about earlier this week as interviewing.

I’m not much and X’s and O’s expert in football but will defer to the knowledge of others who are when it comes to Diaco.

What do you guys think about him?

Diaco was an Iowa guy who played under Coach Fry. He was the DC for Cinncinati in 2009 and then moved with Kelly to Notre Dame. In 2012 he was the Broyles award winner and had the # 1 defense in the country. He spent most of his time as an assistant handling linebackers and special teams, before becoming a DC. He runs a traditional 3-4 scheme.

Thank you for the deeper look into the background info HB.

I would love to see TOSH LUPOI hired to run the defense. He is young, aggressive, a good recruiter, and well versed in the 3 / 4 since that is what Alabama runs.

Lupoi would be an interesting hire for sure. LBers and recruiting is his wheelhouse. Experience at DC is a weakness. Just wonder about any connections to coaches on staff. Usually there is some form of relationship with a current coaching staff member. That is why Lupoi is being talked about to Cal with Wilcox. But, it’s an interesting notion to say the least.

Latest report is he is staying at Bama and not taking the Cal job.
