Since it looks like the class is done for now. For me…
Keyshawn Embery — It’s bad, because he somehow slipped my mind when talking about the shot creation on next year’s team. Guess that’s what happens when you have six commits ha. Love what I’ve seen from his highlight tapes. His athleticism and size are both really good. His ability to get his own shot off the dribble is exciting. He has a tight handle. I think he will play a ton as a freshman.
Isaiah Joe — I think he’ll wind up being 6-6 or 6-7. Such a smooth shot and player overall. Good feel for the game. Playing as Northside’s PG this year should help, too. He’s really long, which makes me optimistic about his defensive potential.
Jordan Phillips — A 6-7 guy who can handle like a guard but basically has PF size is extremely valuable. His all-around game is really interesting.
Almost put Ethan Henderson as one because even though he’s raw, he has great physical gifts. Lot of potential and Mike and the staff have generally been pretty good at developing guys.
I like your list. They all have good size, appear to have good all round skills and most importantly, they all seem to be good shooters (hopefully Phillips is a good shooter). We need scoring threats all over the court (like Nolan’s best teams) and hopefully these 3 will move us back in that direction.
Desi looks to be just as if not more athletic and physical as embry. I have only seen highlights of these guys and with a point guard I really care more about iq and leadership, but will be interesting to see these two battle.
And Chaney. Well I was quick to think Henderson has the NBA potential and be starter as freshman. But more I watch Chaney it seems he has the physical maturity and strength to be ready as a freshman, and just think about how much he can develop his senior year playing for a national top ten prep school vs top competition. We are going to need all the athleticism we can get vs the two dudes going to LSU.
Still my top three for immediate impact are Henderson Chaney and Joe. They all good tho.
I’d change the title to one of the best incoming classes we have had in years that each player can bring something to the team immediately. I have nothing but praise for each of these young men!
You asked for “most intriguing” commits and not “immediate impact”. So, I am looking at what the six could be as juniors. I think I have a good feel for Joe, Embery and Chaney and what they would look like as juniors and what their ceiling is.
But I am truly intrigued by how Henderson, Sills and Phillips develop and even more intrigued by what their ceiling is. It is very possible Henderson and Phillips have a higher ceiling than Chaney and Embery.
Overall, this is the most fascinating and intriguing class signed by Mike to date. I am still trying to figure out a former Hog that compares with Chaney’s skill level. From that perspective Chaney fascinates me the most.
Reggie Chaney - I think he comes in and makes an immediate impact. I think he sees time at both the 4 and 5 spot next season and ends up being our second most productive forward behind Daniel Gafford. He has a Corliss Williamson type of feel with his game and he should really flourish in this system that will allow him to run the floor and use strength and athleticism.
Jordan Phillips - He really intrigues me with his size and ability to handle the ball. It’s really impressive that he was hurt in the Spring and didn’t play on a major shoe circuit and still ended up a top 135 recruit. I’m thinking he’ll end up a Michael Qualls type of steal for us. Meaning he outplays his ranking tremendously. He’s the guy I’m most looking forward to watching play next year.
Isiah Joe - He gets overlooked so much. Whatever we talk about this class he really doesn’t get the recognition that he should. I believe composite wise, he’s the highest ranked player in the class. His game reminds me of Daryl Macon to an extent, which is a guy that can play both guard spots, he’s decent on the defensive end, and his specialty is shooting the 3. The thing about Joe is probably has a higher upside because of his length, like Jimmy mentioned he doesn’t look like he’s done growing and could still add a couple of inches.
I need to go find more film on Chaney. From what I’ve seen, he has a decently skilled back-to-basket game and looks like he’ll offer some rim protection.
Henderson definitely has a high ceiling because of his physical tools.
Sills and Phillips’ shooting will be interesting. If they both wind up being good shooters at the college level, that’ll be huge. I think you can count on C.J., Isaiah and Keyshawn to be good shooters and I wouldn’t be surprised if Darious gets there in the future. Potentially being able to play a lineup with 4-5 shooting threats would be a huge advantage.
Awesome topic. For me, it’s Sills, and that’s probably due to him not playing much this past spring/summer. The prior circuit term, he was very productive and the team really fed off of his toughness and attacking style on both ends. His size isn’t ideal for his current skill set, but he’s certainly big enough to be successful on the college level. Since shooting was mentioned, I’ll say that he’s a good shooter. He should be in the 33-37% range from three in college.

[/quote]Since I value your opinions and observations, I might be jumping on your bandwagon, but I had Sills on my mind because of reading about his toughness and hoping he had some Corey Beck qualities to bring to this group. Defensive minded/tough minded kids seem to be the piece that put some of our best teams over the top.
