You think we had some players who didn't buy in?

Check this out from Virginia Tech, with a coach who was in his third season:

We had some of those negative players just like VT. What amazes me is how good the recruiting class is that our coaches put together with all this kind of stuff going on.

But none of this is on the coaches??? How provocative.

At least CCM didn’t wait 3 years to start the clean up here.

I’m getting the feeling you’re not a fan of our coach and staff…

Fans are not happy with the results on the field. The AD cleans house and brings in a new coaching staff. He deliberately choses one a lot different than the previous bunch. Some players are not physically and/or mentally suited to play in the new system. A significant number chose to or are asked to leave. Makes sense to me. It is the AD’s and the fan’s he is trying to please fault. That means you are as much at fault as the new coaches. JMVVVVVHO :sunglasses:

[/quote]Not saying you are right or wrong, just fail to see why so much time and energy is spent on determining fault or blame. Hopefully the real energy is spent on fixing what problems exist and getting on the right track. I know discussion is what fan boards are all about, but guess I have too much Pollyana in me, because I like to focus first on being a fan. I think this is one of the many reasons I admire Canaan Sandy, so much; as previously pointed out, he doesn’t let the team’s or coaches record keep him from being 100% gung ho.

Agree completely. It is always, always, the head coaches fault if there is major dissention on the team, that is allowed to continue. It is also the assistant coaches’ fault if they see it first and don’t report it. It is also the true upper classmen leaders of the team’s fault if they don’t immediately do something to stop it or report it. If the head coach, once he’s aware of the problem, doesn’t immediately put a stop to it, however necessary, it is his fault.

It could be that all of that “dealing with the problem” is not instantaneous. I doubt that it can happen overnight despite our wishing that it could. If you give players a chance to buy in and “come around” to the new people and new system, that also gives them a chance to not come around too with all of the justifying and complaining that can go with that. I guess you could say “that is all the coaches fault” for not knowing who are not going to “buy-in” and not running them off without a chance to do so.

Is this staff perfect? Not at all. Mistakes have been made and they should be held accountable. But I think they also deserve some time to prove you right and me wrong or vice versa. Expecting them to have 20/20 foresight and to instantly “fix things” without any bumps along the way just seems like someone looking too hard for something to gripe about. JMVVVVVHO.

The bottom line is the bulk always starts and ends with the head coach.

But to think he could weed out the ones that were comfortable/not pulling the right way overnight is akin to me blaming Tony LaRussa for St. Louis Cardinals’ current lack of offense.

That would be the first-place St. Louis Cardinals of the NL Central, otherwise known as the worst division in baseball.

Only time will tell for certain (maybe not?), but as of now it appears that, even with the very bad year we had last year, all of the current roster have bought in. Certainly a lot of that has to be on the coaches! Hopefully, we’ll see major improvements on the field as a result.
