Van Horn kind of laughed about the mid 90s fast ball. He said the scoreboard gun was off when he pitched. All of the other guns in the stadium had him at 92-93. That’s nothing to sneeze about, but some were seeing the scoreboard register 95-96 and Van Horn said Trest hasn’t hit that yet. But, he’s going to get more chances and the velocity will probably go up.
He came to school really wanting to be a two-way player, but he didn’t hit in the fall and wasn’t in the picture to play in the field this spring. He finally got the message and warmed up to the idea of just pitching. I think that’s what he’s going to be going forward, just a pitcher.
It’s rare for someone to be able to play a position and pitch at the SEC level. There is just too much prep work for both areas.
