Wish List as of 4.7.21

Yeah, it depends on who else comes in and also who goes out.

Right now, these six will play the 3 wing spots. Lykes, Tony, Devo, JD, Moore and KK. You would assume that Lykes, Tony and Devo would get 30 minutes, JD 20 and other 10 between Moore and KK.

I think minutes will be hard to come by for the 5th or 6th guard in the rotation, unless there are injuries or foul trouble for the Top 4. Kind of what happened to Desi last half of the season,

That would be six, PJ.

Muss seems to like a short rotation; he might stretch it to nine guys for foul trouble but that’s about the limit except in blowouts. But maybe he might keep five of them in the 20-25 range and the odd man out gets the scraps. Desi was the one who got the scraps in the second half of the season.

I suspect we will start the season with 12 or 13 scholarship players and all of them believe they will make the 7or 8 man rotation. And they all will have opportunities to prove themselves.

I watched this video of highlights from the past season…

It’s easy to forget that many players who were not in the rotation at the end of the season played well and made big plays earlier in the season. Vance, Connor, Desi, Ethan, and KK all had memorable plays during the year. Muss does a great job at putting the pieces together as the season progresses.

I posted earlier that Baylor gave us a blueprint to follow, get you 3,4 dual threat guys and you will be almost unstoppable,so many weapons that 2,3 of them are going to be on.I really hope we bring in shooters an teach them defense.

We seem to put all the confirmed and expected grad transfers automatically into starter or top 8 roles. But shouldn’t we expect at least one of them to be this coming season’s Cylla or V Jackson? That’s happened in both of Muss’ 2 years.

Conversely, who of the non grad transfer newbies or injured (Moore, KK, Mawein, or Johnson) will be the top “8/starter” party crasher that Devo became?

I have no idea who the next Cylla or V Jackson will be, out of Lykes, Toney, Umude, and Gardner, but I think the least likely would be Lykes.

I think perhaps the most likely next Devo would be either KK or Mawein.

Lykes was a top 50 player coming out of high school and did well in a big basketball conference the ACC. He will be already tested in a power 5 conference. This is a great pickup.

When do we expect the next shoe to drop?

Gardner at ECU is expected to announce before the end of the week.

Are we making a run at Kessler from UNC?

I suspect to see a bigger rotation more on line with Baylor’s

Hubert Davis is trying to talk Kessler into coming back to UNC.

I’m sure he is. But, he has to be hearing from others as well.

Hopefully Umude commits to Arkansas. Big get if it happens.

I would be surprised if we hadn’t gotten in touch with Kessler, but I don’t think it went any farther than that. A lot of people think he goes to Gonzaga. Saturday Down South says three SEC schools are in the running, but we’re not one of them: Kentucky, Auburn and Tennessee. He considered Auburn strongly before signing with UNC.

Gonzaga or Auburn is the buzz about him.

And did he not enter the portal before Williams retired?

Yes he did In fact Dan Wolken tweeted that Kessler’s decision to enter the portal was the final straw that led to Roy’s retirement.

David Okwera, not immediat help but will before his first year is up. 6-11 who defends, rebounds and shoots outside and handles ball if needed. That would be a topper because he is unknown to recruiting services but known to all coaches, please let DP be our ace in the hold. Gotta keep a spot for him if he wants it…

Really only an 8 man rotation in the tournament for Baylor.

Correct. Baylor played four transfers and four 4-star recruits in the tournament.

I think he will play a lot. Even with these names. CEM recruited him for a reason. By all accounts he views him a lot like Moses. I think he will be in top5 in minutes.
