Why aren't we West Virginia?

Seems to be style we claim. Obvious answer is we never had players buy into team defense.

They have the best on-ball defending guard in the game and we have 4 below average defensive guards.

Our best on-ball perimeter defenders were big men.

IMO this has been MA’s biggest shortcoming. He hasn’t been able to shore up perimeter defense.

its called coaching! I promise you if you went to both practices you would see one working very very hard on defense and one who obviously doesn’t,same with rebounding…both defense and rebounding are want to!!its coached into you.

[/quote] it’s as simple as that

Huggins demands you play defense if you play for him. Historically, his teams are tough on defense and many times not great on offense both at Cincinnati, Kansas State and West Virginia.
He recruits toughness and it shows, we don’t and it also shows.
While Huggins has yet to ever win it all, he probably would’ve if not for that injury to Kenyon Martin in Cincinnati’s conference tournament when they were clearly the best team in college basketball the entire season.

The Hogs just looked so soft today and that type of team isn’t ever going to go very far.

Go Hogs!
