Where will Shaddy, McKinney, and Scroggins be next season?

It looks like a scholarship crunch is developing. That’s a good problem to have, I suppose.

I assume some players will see the writing on the wall and go to a junior college, both among those currently on the team and in the signing class. That doesn’t necessarily mean any of the ones on your list.

There may be some who aren’t on athletic scholarship who come in next year with the understanding they are going to redshirt.

A redshirt year is a good position for young players to learn and get into good conditioning programs that will benefit them. It would be nice to have several every year! Our pitching could be really good next year as well as our offense.

Carson Shaddy says he’ll be back next year.

[/quote]While what you say is true, it just isn’t practical in most cases, based on how college baseball is structured these days.

As we all know, our better players are all draft eligible after their 3rd year on campus (2nd for some, depending on birth date), and that is whether they red-shirted or not. Coaches just cannot afford to red-shirt many players that will be leaving after their 3rd year on campus - that would mean we would only get 2 seasons out of them.

So, mostly, you will see either injured players, or end-of-the-bench players who are just not ready as freshmen getting the red-shirt treatment. And many of them, if they see they will not get to play early, will decided to leave for “greener pastures” where they can play more.
