79 in Little Rock or 81 in Fayetteville.
79 game against TX was my first in person as a kid. Magical atmosphere.
But can’t recall if that’s where Holtz stomped watch

I don’t remember him stomping a watch, but I do remember him throwing one about 30 yards. And I remember it being against Texas but not the year.
Hope he threw it at an SWC ref…….
I don’t remember any incident with a watch, but Holtz wasn’t known for dignified self- restraint, so nothing would surprise me
My memory may be faulty. Thought there was a watch incident in a TX game. Maybe folklore or made up in my head
Thanks Swine. I vaguely remember some kind of incident w watch
Oh, trust me, the watch fling was in reference to a ref’s call. And remember that we BEAT Texas both of those years.
It was the '81 Texas game when Lou threw the watch. I was at both the '79 and '81 games. IIRC, he was upset that the refs were about to penalize the home team because the fans were spilling out onto the field in the last minute of the game, so I think that was when it happened but I guess it could have also been about a questionable call earlier in the game.
Yes it was the 1981 game. If I remember correctly, their was a motion penalty against an Arkansas TE which was a bad call. The UT DE blew up an Arkansas OL. Lou was upset over the bad call AND wanted a personal foul called against Texas. He was so upset and animated that when waving his arms his watch went flying into the air.
