What happened on the technical foul on Bucknell?

I was at the game and they didn’t show a replay.

The young man said something he shouldn’t have.

I was there and wondered too. I don’t think it was something he said because the refs went to the monitor. I was assuming it was an elbow to Jaylen or something. An odd sequence to see a guy shoot 5 free throws. Probably Jaylen’s only hiccup of the night since he missed 3 of them.
Not a big deal, but I wondered by we didn’t have Macon shoot the Technicals. Barford is an “OK” free throw shooter, but Macon is elite (85%).

Macon was on the bench.
I don’t think that matters; you can have anyone on your team take Technical FT’s (I believe).

Nope. You have to be one of the 5 in the game.

Edit: You’re right that anyone can shoot them. It seems like no one ever puts one in just to shoot FTs.

Art. 4. Technical fouls—The free throws awarded because of any technical foul may be attempted by any player or eligible team member on the offended team, who shall be designated by the head coach or captain of the offended team. However, the same player shall shoot both free throws
Thanks for doing the research; I was pretty sure that was the case.

Funny that you should say “It seems like no one ever puts one in just to shoot FT’s”, because the reason I remember it (this rule) is that I’ve seen it done several times over decades of watching basketball. I’m not specifically talking about just Razorback Hoops either, although I do remember seeing Dusty H. shoot FT’s for us more than once when he was not in the game when the Technical was called.

We have had a couple of 90% FT shooters in the past. I remember them being ran in to shoot Technicals. Can’t give specifics, but do remember it happening.

Made sense to have Barford shoot them because he was going to get 5 straight and he’d about a 75 percent guy . He then proceeded to miss three of them. Best laid plans …

Sez you.

To me, it makes more sense to have a 90% FT shooter take the two T’s, then have the 75% FT shooter take his three.

Don’t read this as a “criticism” of Coach Anderson (before someone makes a “here were, 2-0 and looking better than expected, and someone’s upset because of who we had shoot technicals”). I’m not “upset”; just making an observation. There may have been some other reason Anderson didn’t tap Macon (maybe he was winded or something), and the margin didn’t dictate that it was critical.

The 90 % free throw shooters for the hogs were Robert Birden and Ricky Medlick. They were first and second in the country one year

Medlock

I would have lost money on that bet. I always thought the tech shooter had to be on the floor at the time of the T.
