Does he stick around to be the #3 guy on a team that only plays the #2 in the most dire of circumstances? Does he follow Town and go the JUCO route for a year? Or does he transfer down and play next year? Would not seem to have much shot of ever playing here.
I don’t think Ty will transfer, at least not anytime soon. I think he sees there is a real possibility that he could be the starter in 2018. I don’t think it is a given that Cole Kelley is a better quarterback, just has a better arm.
Don’t you think that might change if Cole comes out of Spring practice as the 2nd string QB? If CBB is certain Cole should be the number 2 QB, I’d think he might name him such after Spring practice. That way Ty wouldn’t burn his RS Soph year if he wanted to transfer down from FBS.

The coaches were higher on Cole in August and while we don’t see practices, a big arm and ability to take a snap in the game will get you to the head of the line. Recruiting of HS talent at QB has shifted under Enos direction. These will be his guys going forward after Austin is finished next year.
Aloha,
Good question. Spring Ball shall be very interesting. Ty had that deer in the headlights look whenever he did see the field this season. Not re-assuring. AA regressed after the Bama game for whatever reason(s). I think going into Spring all starting positions are going to be open, even at QB. After this season, I expect a very physical and demanding Spring. Lets see how Ty does.
There is no way anyone beats AA out of the starting position. If the Oline protects he is ALL SEC
I think AA was up and down after the Bama game just like the rest of the team was up and down. A big part of that was he was getting pummeled because the OL couldn’t protect him.
I see no way that a healthy AA doesn’t start against FAMU, and every other 2017 game for that matter. Kelley hasn’t played at all, Storey has played very little and did nothing when he did get in; classic deer in the headlights stuff. Does Storey bail if Kelley comes out of spring 2018 as the starter? We shall see. Or maybe we won’t see; maybe Ty wins the job in 16 months.
Simple reason why Allen regressed: he got the shit knocked out of him, over and over again.
I think the development we see out of AA over the off season is being able to get through his reads faster and release the ball faster. We saw the same thing with BA. He’s been through a season as the starter and knows what he needs to work on.
As far as Ty or Cole, I think that should be a good competition. I doubt Ty transfers though. No inside information; I just don’t think he will.
Great point, the better arm does not always translate to being a better QB, Mallett has a great arm and is still second string and more than likely always will be. WPS
Yes, it’s a valid point. But I think the even bigger point is that (a) no one is going to beat Austin out this season (2017), so (b) we’re talking about a competition that won’t truly be decided until spring ball in 2018. A LOT can change in that time, for either of these guys . . . plus, any new QB’s who join the program in the meantime.
Way too early to try and figure this one out. Not to say I’m not interested and/or had not thought about it. But I’m just interested in seeing how it plays out at this point. Too many variables to hazard a guess as to who will be behind center (and at #2) when we start play in 2018.
