I was traveling for business through Washington Dulles yesterday. I was wearing a dress pull over sweater with a Razorback embroidered on it. On my ride on the rental car shuttle, I had a fun conversation with a gentleman from Boston who raved about the Sidney Moncrief era Razorbacks. It was bittersweet for me to relive the NCAA regional loss to Indiana State. It was a fun way to pass time on an airport shuttle. I had a similar conversation in a Copenhagen hotel lobby a few years ago.
Wearing your Hog gear will open you up to many fun conversations.
In my 34 years of business travel it happed frequently. Met one of
Lou’s assistants once. Can’t recall his name. Even met a guy in Turkey that claimed he tutored football players on the hill.
Wear my Slobber Hog cap every time I play blackjack in Vegas. Usually starts some interesting conversations…except for one guy who wanted to know what country Arkansas was in.
Arkansas Razorbacks have true identity. I had opportunity to travel to about 20 countries on business. Have had Hogs conversation in a lot of those countries, as far away as Indonesia. Globally people identify Arkansas with two things, Razorbacks and Bill Clinton.
I still recall the time me and the wife were in MD in 94 visiting my brother and sister while in D.C. at Union Station me in my Championship gear a limo roles by real slow and a guy rolls down the window and yells Go Hogs!! Made my day
Last summer in a hotel restaurant in Los Angeles, the server saw my Hog shirt and told me how he and his teenage son had just watched “Greater” on a streaming service. They weren’t big college football fans, but loved the movie and the message. He had new-found respect Arkansas. It was cool.
