Watching UCSB against Creighton reminds me

Of the one time we played the Gauchos. In 1973-74 we started the season as a rent-a-win for Bill Walton and UCLA at Pauley Pavilion. John Wooden called off the dogs (bears?) early and we lost by 22. The next night we played at Santa Barbara and got beat even worse. Didn’t augur well for the upcoming season; we finished 10-16 and Lanny Van Eman got fired. JFB then hired a coach from Creighton named Sutton who did okay.

UCSB is leading Creighton by the way, late in the first half.
