Visited Vino’s in LR this afternoon. Vino’s is a fine establishment with great food, beer, and people. Always enjoy it.
They have a few TV’s about with ESPN playing. I asked one of the staff if they had the SEC network and, if so, could they change a TV to the tournament.
You would have thought I asked her to change it to the North Korea sports network. This poor gal literally had no idea what the SEC was. I politely spelled out the acronym, she asked a few other folks, and discovered that they don’t have it.
As intently as we follow sports, I found it very interesting that there are people in Little Rock who have never heard of the SEC. I’m certain she’s in the minority but it’s interesting.
Apparently they don’t understand how much that would there business. I will not give them any business. There are places that know what the SEC network is and also they are hog fans !
Are the owners from overseas or Mexico?
I lived and worked in LR for 5 years and left there for this very reason. I realize there are hog fans in LR but it is a different breed. There is such a disconnect with LR and the rest of the state. Always has been. It’s caused a lot of issues. The good news is aside from politics and it being the state capital is will slowly become less and less relevant as NWA continues to grow.

I’ve lived in LR my whole life…this is a weird post. Sorry
I don’t think the help at Vino’s is representative of the entire city. Those that have been there know it’s different.
It was just interesting to me that ANYONE in an SEC state wouldn’t know what the SEC is. You would have to consume almost zero media around here to have never heard of the SEC.
If you had gone to any number of other bars in town the SEC tournament would have been on, including all the rest of the locally owned brew pubs in town. I know because I’ve been in Lost Forty, Blue Canoe, Diamond Bear, Flyway and Rebel Kettle when the SEC network was on, and I believe they have it at Stone’s Throw too. The chains of course all have it.
Little Rock is big Razorback country, and that cuts across race and income. Nothing has changed in that regard for the last 40 years. In fact, I think I probably see more Hog stuff worn and displayed now than ever.
Vino’s is no more the norm in central Arkansas regarding the level of interest in the Hogs than a retiree neighborhood in NW Arkansas full of snowbirds.
I grew up in south Arkansas through high school. I’ve lived in LR for almost 11 years now and absolutely love it. I do miss not seeing my family as much. But I love Little Rock. This is a very weird post.
Arkansas is not what it used to be. And that applies to everywhere, not just Little Rock. People move here from somewhere else and they’re not Razorback fans. Sometimes they’re not even sports fans. I suspect you just ran into one of those.
I’m staying at one of the worst hotels in the state in Hot Springs. It’s not even a 1*. It’s a walk on or walk in. There is a reason why they have vacancies during championship weekend during the middle of racing season. It’s Ok though. In fact it’s great. They have the SEC network. What else do I need?
Your presumption is ignorant. I grew up in north central Arkansas, went to college and lived in Fayetteville for years afterward, and have lived in Little Rock since 2003. I travel the state extensively as well as all over the SEC. It’s not hard to make the argument as NWA continues to grow due to the influx of people from other parts of the country that you don’t have the same kind of following in NWA that you used to have. I see a lot of people go to games in Fayetteville just to be seen or to be a part of the tailgate party.
