This is a good synopsis of what has happened to Vanderbilt’s pitching staff this season, which helps show why the Commodores haven’t been dominant like recent seasons: http://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/ … 312573001/
Vanderbilt lost 6-2 to No. 2 Louisville last night. The Commodores are 29-19 overall and 12-11 in SEC games entering this weekend’s series.
Vanderbilt has been very lucky to have gotten many top prospects to come to school. There is also a belief that they have been able to use a huge amount of academic scholarship money for baseball. I don’t doubt that at all. Why some have elected to come back for their senior season and not take a big MLB contract I’ve always wondered, as have rival coaches in the SEC. But they just didn’t come out so well over the last two years. Their luck ran out, so to speak.
