USC fires Clay Helton

In mid September. Almost Jack Crowe-like.

When Broyles did that it was unprecedented. At least I don’t recall it happening before that. Usually the deal was to let the coach finish the season even if he were fired with a few games to go. Now it seems to happen with some frequency. As soon as it becomes apparent the team is doing nothing, the coach is out the door.

Too bad because the assistants probably will be fired at year’s end. I particularly like Graham Harrell the OC. He is good enough that he will likely get another P-5 job. Just hate to see him get fired.
