What’s everyone’s favorite thing to do in Asheville? Admire the shear wealth of the Vanderbilt’s while walking around Biltmore? Drink Orange Crushes at Pack’s Tavern? Enjoy the plantains at Salsa’s? Hammer the Catawba White Zombie at the Thirsty Monk? Enjoy the wine and scenery at Burntshirt Vineyard? Avoid the lice infected hippies on every corner?
Green Man Flagship IPA and Highland Brewery Gaelic Ale are both delicious … Eric Scheffer’s Jettie Rae’s is killing it now on the restaurant scene (great fish choices) … Jargon in West Asheville is a new favorite for us.

We like the Biltmore, been there many times. However, I prefer the chaos of Hearst castle.
The mountains, er hills, are beautiful.
I spent two weeks working in Asheville in 2020 but didn’t have time for any touristy stuff: Work 12 hours, go back to the hotel, find a restaurant for dinner, crash. So I’m no help here. Scenery is great though. Drove past the casino every day but never stopped.
Great ribs and sides at 12 Bones BBQ (agree with Wax on the Greenman IPA) then dessert at the Chocolate Lounge downtown.
The beer scene and the mountains are great. Some pretty good restaurants. Quite a few funky locals (some of whom smell funky).
Hippy (or whatever they are called now) capitol of the South…
The best thing I have done in Asheville is the LaZoom Comedy Bus Tours. They are hysterical, not your usual tour guides TRYING to be funny, they are from actual Improv and Comedy clubs. You can bring drinks on the bus. Trust me, I’ve done this several times. My son who has done stand-up comedy was skeptical, but he went and even admitted they were outstanding.
Lots of great restaurants, like Chai Pani Indian, Buxton Hall BBQ, etc. Biscuit Head is really good for biscuits.
There are lots of free spirits in Asheville, but if you call them hippies your head is stuck in the 1960s IMHO, they’re not that.
The LaZoom Comedy tour is absolutely a must-do on any trip to Asheville … the nun character is hilarious

I like the free bluegrass concerts on Saturday nights in the summer. And the ice cold swimming pools. Asheville is one of the coolest spots in the South during the Summer.
