Time to look at the Bracket Matrix

With January almost gone, as well as the first half of the SEC schedule, the season is in its last third. Soooo, bracketology time is fast approaching.

Bracket Matrix tracks dozens of bracketology sites, from Joe Lunardi to some guy in his basement in Buffalo. The theory, I suppose, being that sheer volume corrects for the outlier who is going to have Oregon State as a #1 seed if they’re 6-20.

As of this morning, 93 sites were being tracked. All 93 had us in the field. The consensus was as the top 9 seed, with a range from a 5 to an 11. The consensus also has 8 SEC teams in the field, from Auburn as a 3 seed to Misery as an 11. Georgia is in the first four out, South Carolina in the next four out (both lost today; we’ll see what effect that has if any).

Also of note is that UAPB is the projected winner of the SWAC as a 16 seed in the First Four, named in 52 of the 93 brackets. UAPB has made the Dance once, serving as cannon fodder for Duke in 2010. The Lions were unbeaten in the SWAC until losing at home to Grambling today.
