Cannon Turner quarterbacked Arkadelphia to the state 4A title last fall as a sophomore, beating Warren and Treylon Burks in the title game which featured a Warren student running out on the field with 15 seconds left, getting the Lumberjacks a penalty that took them out of range for a game-winning field goal (threw an interception on the next play). Turner got the winning points with three minutes left on an 80-yard TD pass to his tight end.
Turner is on the Badgers’ track team this spring, and finished seventh in the 4A state meet Tuesday night in the 200 meters in 23.56 seconds. That’s not a combination you see often; “quarterback” and “200 meter sprinter”. He also made the state meet in the 100 but was eliminated in the semifinals in 11.55.
Will he develop into a D-I prospect? Who knows? He probably needs to get bigger, but 15-year-olds tend to do that. But a QB with speed certainly might interest teams using an RPO-type offense. Time in the 40 is reportedly 4.52.
