Another case of “lies, damned lies and statistics”, and cherry picking numbers. Season is only three weeks old. First week we struggled on offense, no question. Since then, scored 41 and 42 points, averaged 435 yards a game, and called off the dogs with more than a quarter left against TSU. We could have scored 60 on TSU if we had desired/it had been needed (and they’d played the full 60 minutes). But since the LTU game was not our best production, two very good games have not completely overcome it.
By the way, Austin Allen is the most efficient passer in the SEC so far. Not Chad Kelly, or Josh Dobbs, or Jalen Hurts, or anyone else. (See, I can cherry-pick numbers too!) We’re not going to roll up huge yardage numbers either rushing or passing because BB wants balance. If he gets 200 yards rushing and 200 passing, BB is happy, but it won’t look great on the NCAA list on Sunday morning. Right now, 200 ypg rushing would be #52, 200 ypg passing is 91st (Oregon State averaging exactly 200.0).
I do think the running game needs to improve, but that is due in part to still shuffling the cards in the offensive line deck. To win three straight when you’re still figuring out your best OL alignment is pretty good IMO.
