From an article about lower attendance at CFB, this comment on the availability of alcohol in the stadium non-club areas confirms my belief. I have always felt that allowing the sale of alcohol within the stadium will keep people from tanking up before they enter the venue.

I doubt it would make much difference unless they halt tailgateing before the games.
The data says that it does help reduce the binge drinking. The idea that you can get it after you go into the stadium reduces those that just kill four or five drinks and then walk in. I’m not in favor of alcohol in college venues, but those that have researched it says it does change the atmosphere from so many drunks at the start of games. You aren’t going to eliminate alcohol anyway, so might as well sell it and keep some revenue, too.
Along these lines, I’m sure that many remember what the Hog Hat was designed to do: hide a flask of alcohol in the hat.
I’d never thought about that aspect of selling alcohol in the stadium. However, it makes sense. I’ve seen a lot of drunks at pre-game tailgates. Alcohol sales inside the stadium can be restricted to people who aren’t intoxicated & can be stopped at some point during the game (say, midway through the 3rd quarter). Besides, most people don’t get drunk. They drink one or two, maybe 3, beers over the course of a couple of hours.

Yep, that was Mike Ibsen’s purpose. Sneaking in the flask.
