Into a position of a complete and EPIC collapse in the remaining games and SEC Tourn, and make no mistake, they are looking at EPIC collapse dead in the eye, or , they are looking at a really really good reset of the season and a very very strong finish. But they are straddling the brink of one or the other. I hate that collapse is even in sight much less face to face with them. But it is what it is, they have invited it in, openly, easily.
I don’t believe we are folding. We just aren’t real talented, and we don’t have much quality depth. The SEC is filled with teams who are about as good as we are. I don’t see us making a run because there are no sure wins left on the schedule. Every game will be a dogfight from here on out. If we play .500 from here on out, we finish 8-10. I’m not sure we can play .500 ball with the teams we have left. We haven’t done it so far in this league.
It will be interesting to see what Coach Anderson does with this team from here to season’s end. Does he keep trying to do what he has done or does he try to shake things up? He’s always been a one trick pony as a coach, but maybe he will surprise us. If he has anything in that bag of tricks, he better use it.
Like Coach B. was, Mike A. is making too much money for the consistent results that are being delivered. The Hogs B-ball team will not win anything significant with Coach Anderson.
I seriously wish people would stop comparing CMA to CBB, it’s not even in the same stratosphere. I’m disappointed in the team so far this year, but this is nothing like what the football team went through. CMA has been to the SEC Championship game 2 of the past 3 years. He has a 65 win % here at Arkansas, and I last I checked he has the second best SEC record the last 3 years. CBB was at the bottom of the barrel in the SEC-W in football only had 1 season above .500 in conference and never even sniffed going to the conference championship game. That’s a pretty big difference.
CMA changed last year. Our trapping defense was getting abused last year as usual. He switched from trapping defense to zone and match up zone. The season turned around and I complimented him like so many other fans. This year he is way too stubborn and the failure is much worse than last year in my eyes.

[/quote]While the numbers you provide support your position, the sad reality is that the conference is improving at a faster pace than our program appears to be improving. I am very hopeful that we see some talent arrive next year to turn this trend. It is however perplexing that seven years in we would not be seeing more from our program than what we are seeing now.
You see programs like Texas Tech and TCU with early year coaches making programs nationally respectable. Even TX coach has his team gritting out likely NCAA appearance.
Our program with all of our history must do better than recent performances.
Mike took over a dumpster fire and runs a clean program.
He has been above average but not consistently trending into national prominence.
I hope the fire to be a top national power is there like Richardson and Sutton.
All of the people trashing MA should think about all of those miserable years between Nolan and when MA came back.
MA is a winner. He has a great class coming in next year and things look good for the future. We currently have a team that has some talent but not compared to what next years team is setting up to be.
This season is wash no matter how they finish. They threw away a hit a decent seed in the Dance by not playing defense.
They are set up for a early exit even if they make the Dance.
Trashing MA or trashing the Players? For one, I am not trashing MA but his performance isn’t helping his cause. I don’t want Mike fired. I just want to see CMA adapt and make changes. Florida and AU play fast but they rebound and play great defense. Over the years, teams like Florida, OK, UK, Louisville, Minnesota, and now AU use a high scoring style and adapted to the changes, by emphasizing assists, good floor spacing, good rebounding, tight man to man defense, good zone, etc. They can run and they can play half court.
We don’t have the depth and talent for this style so CMA should adapt and modify. He doesn’t have to do anything more than what he did last year- reduce the trapping man to man, use more zone and press at strategic points only. It all comes down to the scheme and talent that fits it. We are using a scheme that our roster can’t support.
