There is a Virginia Tech connection on the Arkansas coaching staff. It’s Bobby Allen, father of Austin Allen, the UA quarterback and the director of high school and NFL relations. Bobby Allen was a three-year letter winner at Tech, graduating in 1983. He played kicker, quarterback and outside linebacker at Tech, moving from QB after a knee injury early in his college career.
Bobby Allen was a star quarterback in the Washington, D.C. area in high school. He led a first-year high school – Seneca Valley in Gaithersburg, MD., to an undefeated year and a state championship. He was the D.C. area player of the year. He was also a standout basketball and baseball player.
I do know that there were times that his good friend, Tech defensive coordinator Bud Foster, called Bobby about coaching for the Hokies. There may have been times that Bobby called about Foster coming to Arkansas, too, as an go-between for the Arkansas head coach.
