I’ve always wondered how the beer hat tradition began at Baum, so I spent a little time learning about it. Here is what I found.
Well done, Matt.
Enjoyed the read, Matt.
After dropping hints for years, my wife finally came through with a beer hat for me this week for a birthday gift. Couldn’t make it to the game last night, but wore the hat in my easy chair as we whupped Florida.
Great story!
I bought a beer hat for my daughter a couple of years ago at the souvenir shop on Razorback Road on the way to Baum.
Love the story, and I agree with DVH…its a great tradition since it comes everytime with a bases loaded opportunity for hog hitters. I could be wrong but I thought Skip Carey when he was play by play for the Atl Braves first drew attention to bases loaded as being “drunk”. I remember him saying “the bases are drunk” when the Braves would load them up. I had never heard that before…and seem to recall someone back then crediting SC with the terminology.
Great read!
Another great find. Thanks, Matt.
Oh, he didn’t find it. He researched it!
