Kobie Baker, was apparently basically their basketball operations guy, and had some responsibility for compliance. Before coming to Bama, he worked for the NCAA as the Assistant Director for Enforcement for Basketball Development and as Associate Director of Amateurism Certification.
Ala.com is saying he’s connected with the investigation, and was the staff member who arranged and attended a meeting with an incoming Bama freshman player’s dad, one of the overt acts of the conspiracy, and was paid some cash for his troubles.
Kind of easy to see why the feds did not tip off the NCAA about the investigation.
