Well, Notorious. Who do you want? Surely, not one Bret Bielema. We had 5 years of that pain. Nebraska gave their coach only 3 years. Florida only 2 and 1/2. We gave Coach Bielema 5. If the School had brought back Coach B, it would have been an irate group of fans. They had no choice, but to fire Coach. He was paid well and had plenty of time. It just didn’t work out.
I want competent leadership. I want one of the best ADs in the country with a record of making good hires making the moves instead of a green interim.
Long was fired for one of 2 reasons (or both). He either wouldn’t fire Bielema or he wouldn’t be a pawn for Gus.
What I want is what I’ve always wanted–a HC who is unique and bridges the talent gap due to being unique.
I want someone who will unite the fans. I want someone who isn’t a slimeball who I have to hold my nose to support.
I would prefer a stud defensive coach. Everyone loves the bells and whistles of the HUNH but aside from OK, all the schools at the top, now, have good defenses.
Yes. There was. It has been reported, here (or elsewhere?) that the initial non-vote was 5-5 or something like that.
Boyer threw his weight around and got his way.
If you read the quotes and the article about Long’s performance evals there’s really no getting around the fact he was fired so they could move forward on their suddenly dicey plan (and because of some really petty old grudges).
Long did a phenomenal job, here. If you think they fired him because we took a bad turn starting at the end of last year, you’re fooling yourself.

That is patently false, he was fired because he made some very poor financial and hiring decisions and alienated a huge chunk of donors and fans.
