They ranked us #26. How we are behind A&M is beyond me. Butler is ranked #33. Soooo, by their own metrics they matched our #7 seed against a team that they thought was one line worse than a #8 seed.
There is a lot of complaining by a lot of people about the committee and what they are looking at. Both coaches and announcers are complaining about not knowing what is needed. I don’t like Seth Greenberg, but he made a very valid point. This Quadrant system is flawed. Beating Toledo (#75 RPI) is worth the same number of points as beating VA (#1 RPI) at BWA. Which is the better win?
True, but look what it replaced. Under the straight RPI system, beating anyone on the road is much better than beating UVA at home. It needs further tweaking (I’d like to see the quadrants determined by metrics like Pomeroy and BPI rather than RPI), but it’s an improvement.
I was hoping we would find our way to a Dallas or Nashville game. This matchup looks disturbingly like the #7-#10 matchup in 2001 with the Big East’s Georgetown. Georgetown like Butler was underseeded. We lost a heartbreaker that was effectively a free pass to the SS. We should have won that game. Joe didn’t show. Dean got a bad call down the stretch. Hopefully that karmic rebound is about to snap back in our direction.
Aggies have wins over West Virginia at neutral site, at Auburn and over Kentucky. Our problem is Oklahoma and Minnesota tanked after playing us at their peak level.
