Story: Kjerstad's homer lifts Hogs, 1-0

Here’s the game story after Arkansas beat Arizona:

That sums up exactly what Marty put in the thread. Thank you Clay! It’s nice to still have reporting on Razorbacks Sports from a Henry!

Second straight shutout for Razorback pitching? Did I miss a game? Wasn’t the previous game a 3 to 1 victory?

That’s what happens when you are re-writing something something at 3 a.m. and that’s when I got the Dave Van Horn quotes. That sentence should read: It’s the third game in a 4-0 start for Arkansas pitchers to allow two runs or fewer. Fixed now.

I’m up now at 10:30 a.m. and have had two cups of coffee. I’m ready to roll again. Those late night assignments (and I volunteered) aren’t so easy for an old guy.

I will say that it was a great game. It’s a big park and night air – the marine layer as Van Horn put it – was the pitcher’s friend. It makes Kjerstad’s homer even more amazing. I love to watch that kind of baseball.

Carson Shaddy has been great at second base. As Dave Van Horn said in preseason, he settled in to that position late last season and has been terrific so far this year. He made two great plays. One was when he ran down the base runner at third for taking too wide a turn. Then, on the next batter, he went deep behind second base to get a grounder and throw out a runner at first.

Shaddy’s throw to first and the catch a first were amazing to see… great play and a big one at that time in the game!
