Thanks Matt lot of great info there

Thanks Matt!

I really thought we would have 6-7 hitters hitting above .300 this year. A little disappointed in the hitting this year, but pleasantly surprised with our pitching.

The year isn’t over, which can cut both ways. Battles and Gregory are just below .300, and if Slavens stays on his tear, he’ll be hitting over .300 before long.

With each year I find myself more preferring OPS to batting average. I think a .900 OPS is roughly the equivalent to a .300 batting average.

Arkansas’ hitters with a .900 or higher OPS:

Zack Gregory — 1.047
Braydon Webb — .970
Michael Turner — .968
Brady Slavens — .924
Dylan Leach — .908
Chris Lanzilli — .905
Cayden Wallace — .903

How good would Ramage’s stats be but for the meltdown at Mizzou!

The Missouri outing didn’t affect his batting average average much because he only allowed one hit. But those two walks at the start of the inning accounted for 20% of his walks so far this year.

Apparently the baseballs were slick at Missouri. No mud. They are supposed to be rubbed by Delaware mud. Gives a little tackiness. Cold weather and slick baseballs are a bad combo. At least that’s what I was told.

I always thought the umps rubbed the mud on baseballs prior to games? After some brief research it appears that may not be the case anymore. Does anyone know?

Yes cold weather does make the balls tend to be slicker which can affect the way the ball comes out of your hand for sure. But same for both teams.

I think in the big leagues there is personnel designed to rub up four or five dozen baseballs before every game. I do not know why that still wouldn’t be the case but would be curious to know if it is.
