Left a birdie putt on the last hole hanging on the front edge. If it had fallen in, she would have had a playoff with a Chinese golfer for the bronze medal. As it is, tied with two women for fourth at -9. Of course, fourth in an Olympic event is the absolute worst place to finish, kinda like second in a recruiting battle. Stacy had to shoot 66 today to get into contention for a medal. That 76 on Friday killed her chances. Even a 73 on Friday would have left her with the silver medal.
Yes, the dreaded 4th place finish. Gerina Pillar, the other American started the day in the bronze medal position and shot a dreadful 74 today.
I was afraid things might get a little big for Gerina, especially playing in the final group with an all-time great and the current world #1. Yes, she came through in the Solheim Cup…but still. 18 hopes with that pressure and with those two ladies…that’s alot. It will be a great building block for her.
Stacy on the other hand, I feel like she is putting a monkey on her own back sometimes…so many second places the last two years. She needs to see some putts drop in big moments. She has the total game. No question.
