Some grid notes

I did get to see 15 minutes of practice. Devin Manuel worked with the twos at left tackle. So did Luke Jones. Manuel will probably not play in the bowl.

Did not see anything but individual drills. Hard to tell much. I watched tight ends. Hudson Henry has gotten more physical. Making strides there.

I can tell that oline is much improved since last practice I saw in camp. Impressive growth to technique and pad level. Manuel is impressive.

Did not go on defensive end.

Offensive backs are fun to watch. Great group. They enjoy practice and that’s important.

Having a rested and healthy group should show a big improvement. What do we know about Penn State’s linebacker depth behind the two monsters who won’t be there? That could be a key to running game production and setting up the passing game.

I am not a Penn State guy. The first group is good. Not sure on backups. They made only 23 tackles. A backup defensive end might move there. But they may lose a starting end that complicates any shuffle. Franklin isn’t saying what moves he’s making but this is a blow. There may be more opt outs coming. The top receiver is not practicing. Probably out. But that is not being discussed by anyone at PSU.

Nice report. I have missed any discussion of Marcus Henderson, if there has been any. Wonder about his progress.

Still skinny. Cannot hold weight. Getting some reps at center.

Thanks, Clay. Too bad he can’t catch the football. Guess no chance he will get another look at TE.

Most o-linemen don’t catch the ball that well. Not surprising. Tight end is a highly specialized position. I was always skeptical of that tryout.

Thanks the report Clay… looking forward to seeing how the OL keeps getting bigger and better in the future… I thought Henderson was the one that would come in and play very quickly… none of that group has really helped us any so far.

My favorite is Dom Johnson - all he does is rack up yards.

He not only looks fast. He is fast.
The backs were going through gates that made them drop pads. Good for AJ and Rocket.

Yes both AJ and Rocket can take it to the house anytime they break into the open… must have in my opinion because that can be the difference between a touchdown FG or getting nothing, you don’t get too many creases in the SEC

I’m not a betting man, but those dropouts have to start having an effect on the line soon.

I’m a Rocket man myself.

I find it comforting that we have 4 RB’s that could play anywhere.

what a luxury and a curse to manage touches with that much talent in one room.

And so many talented freshmen with such upside. The potential that Sanders showed at receiver must have Briles at the computer designing plays. The possible trickeration boggles the mind. Yeah, I know it can go too far and backfire, but it’s fun to think about with all of that talent. There is size to take and deliver hits and keep fresh bodies going in rotation. When have we had this kind of depth?

The last time was Dmac, Felix, and Hillis. I love Rocket and can’t wait to see him have an expanded role in the offense. Briles HAS to run a lot of two back sets to force the defense into the wrong personnel. Whichever way the D lines up (extra LB or S), you run against the weakness- roll out Rocket on a route or handoff with DJ as the extra back/ FB. The possibilities are so exciting!
