IMO the ‘one and done’ model for HS athletes going to CBB is about to go the way of the dinosaurs…much like the CFB players opting out of bowl games, the HS superstars like NJS should go straight to the NBA or a development league. He would have done the Hogs a favor by letting us get another of the experienced portal ‘journeymen’. We sure could 2 Stanley U. right about now. Muss seems to have better luck with this type of player anyway. I mean - what will we have left after this season if Black and Walsh go pro? I hope he saves all but the 2 schoolies for some experienced players. We are getting beat every game by experience and awful officiating
it was interesting how confident Fran Fraschilla was that we would not see Nick return ths year. NSJ seems no better than Archie G in his choice of entourage
Fran is a Big XII guy so I don’t put much stock in that comment
Seems a knee jerk reaction and I partially understand the reaction, but wasn’t the player for Baylor who drove a stake through our heart, likely one of those one and dones? Because we are perpetually snakebit, does not mean we shouldn’t go hunting.
I don’t follow the pros much, but isn’t the NBA expected to once again allow players to jump straight from high school to the league? If so, that will probably take care of most of the “one-and-dones”.
Take em if you can get em. I sure liked the one year with Moses Moody.
So Muss was supposed to look in his crystal ball and realize that Smith would develop a knee problem and go get an older player instead?
Tough post and something I disagree with. I don’t think we’d be regretting signing NSJ if he’s healthy and putting up 20 ppg and leading us to more wins. Sign the great ones and build around them, especially AR kids. Muss didn’t sign enough shooters in this last class and it’s hurt the team. I’m hoping the FR not playing much are working on their shot in order to see the floor more next year.
I have heard talk of it. I wish the NBA would adopt the rule that pro baseball has, but I don’t think that will happen.
The NBA wants to go back to drafting high school kids, but it will have to be included in the next collective bargaining agreement because it affects the job conditions for NBA players. The chances of adopting the baseball rule are zero and I haven’t seen anyone suggest it.
As noted above in the thread, we’d be happy with it if Nick was healthy and playing like the Baylor kid.
Nick was and is a bonanza with his being a Hog and encouraging his teammates. I think he was instrumental in getting the other two of the Mickey D’s in a Razorback uniform. No way we ever pass on a top twenty player from an Arkansas high school. He had the shooters, but no crystal ball to see major injuries gutting his plans. I wish we could get a player with Nick’s ability every year from a HS, Jr College, Portal, playgrounds, anywhere in the world. Super star level players can be sidelined just like any other player you recruit. Get them and go for the hardware.
Yes, but I worry. Fran is not stupid to say something that he doesn’t know anything about. He probably heard it from someone he trusts. Isn’t that what we all do?
Without Nick, we don’t get Black and Walsh. Case closed.
How Muss got Black away from Baylor with both his parents having played there…well, it is nothing short of awesome recruiting.
I’m not ready to give up on Holland either.
Holland would certainly lessen the problem we face with the likelihood that we lose 3-5 of our best players.
In this day, you must reload every year. I would suspect that some who thought they were one and done are not done But you never know.
I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a more ludicrous post. In the past some have complained that recruiting has not been good enough to compete at a high level. But complaining about recruiting too well? Are you kidding me!?
You lost me with “Fran is not stupid.”
No, he is not, but he is a Big 12 guy.
As far as the SEC, he might not be stupid, but he is woefully ignorant.
Are you saying Fran is spreading bad information purposely because he likes Big 12 and hates SEC? I may have used the word ‘stupid’ in a stupid way, but I don’t think this has anything to do with SEC, Big 12 etc.
BTW, why do you think that Fran is a Big 12 guy? Because he does Big 12 games? I am sure ESPN assigned him to Big 12 games.
Don’t care. Fran works predominantly in the Big 12.
I have never seen him assigned an SEC game…at least lately.
I seriously doubt he has any real insight into Nick’s situation. Who does?
Jeremy Fran coached on the east coast I think so him big 12 related is simply what ESPN assigned
Now Fran does have connections to the league and agents which is where smoke like that usually comes from.
I think that if he can play in the next week he will return and finish the year. If at Valentine’s he hasn’t played I am afraid he is out.
