So, in the not too distant future, we would like to be where Tennessee is today................

…going into the sweet 16 in the NCAA.

  1. Tennessee has a great ball handling, shooting, passing point guard with great speed. Do we really have the potential for that on this team or on the way?
  2. Tennessee has a great 3 point shooting wing player in Schofield who is deadly from three point land AND can drive and attack the basket AND is a physical rebounder. Do we really have the potential for that on this team or on the way?
  3. Tennessee has the best power forward in the SEC, two time player of the year, almost a second coming of Corliss Williamson. Do we really have the potential for that on this team or on the way?
  4. Tennessee has several big men who can rebound well, defend the post, and are forces on the offensive board. Do we really have the potential for that on this team or on the way?
  5. Tennessee has a coach whose teams have improved and grown significantly in talent and ability each year he has been there. Do we really have the potential for that on this team or on the way?

Our team shot the three well in the NIT and played well enough to go to two games before being tossed out. That is basically finishing tied with eight other teams for ninth in the tournament for the top 32 teams below the top 68 teams who played in the NCAA. Somehow, that is supposed to imply that we are only “adding two or three good recruits or transfers” from being where Tennessee is today. There are no “one-and-dones” instant impact recruits or transfers, that I know of, considering us. It just looks like we have a very long way to go to get where Tennessee is today. Gabe and Davis would have to “overnight” develop a great three point shot, the entire team would have to learn how to shoot free throws well enough to not be last in the SEC again next year, Joe would have to hit the weights and suddenly have an attacking the basket, physical addition to his great shot, Chaney would have to stop sulking and really hone his offensive skills, and two or three big rebounding and scoring machines would have to chose us. Could that all happen? Not likely, but even all of that would not put us at Tennessee’s talent and coaching level. JMVVVVVVHO.

Shameless bump. It needed to happen because of the reasons cited in OP particularly #5.
