There was a little momemtum to fire Anderson, after the Florida loss. However, that quickly died down after Florida beat LSU and almost made it to the final because people realized just how good a team Florida is.
Also, the AD has already had a hand in replacing two head coaches, and until they prove to be successful hires, it would be risky for a new AD fire Anderson at time. Caution dictates waiting another year and seeing how many games the team wins next year.
Frankly, I believe next year will be a disaster. Gafford’s gone and Anderson didn’t sign anyone to replace him and, now it is too late because there are very few 100 players remaining and none showing much, if any, interest in Arkansas. I have no doubt, Anderson will sign some warm body project that other SEC teams have passed on and hope that he is one of the 4% that end up being far better than their rating.
> CMA will be asked to make changes on his staff and he complies and has another year.
> CMA will be asked to make changes on his staff and he DOES NOT comply and a mutual agreement to part ways happens.
The problem with option 1 as I see it is that it will be very difficult to bring in solid assistants knowing they may be working with a head coach who may only have 1 year left. Unless CMA and HY come to some kind of an agreement that if he changes his assistants he gets more than a year to see if it works. Otherwise, it makes option 1 very tough which would obviously lead to option 2.
I haven’t been happy with the way things have been going under CMA myself for the last several years. I love the guy but as a coach don’t think he is getting the most out of his players and we are having some bigger issues in recruiting then we realize. With that being said, I have always felt he should get 1 more year and after that - anything is game if it gets worse. The likelihood of that happening is very real due to the issues I mentioned above - recruiting.
The next 48-72 hours could be very interesting to say the least.
I always thought replacing assistants is a copout that football coaches are famous for using to save their jobs. In basketball, I believe the assistant’s recruiting is as good as the profile of the head coach, unless the assistant is pushing the envelope. Until Anderson wins big, no assistant is going to beat out Kentucky for recruits. I think in football, assistants do have an impact in recruiting and can overcome the profile of the coach.

[/quote]I believe the problem has been retaining and developing, not recruiting so much.
I’m not concerned that there aren’t top 100 recruits available, although Stith is a top 100 juco. Qualls wasn’t top 100 and he did just fine, for instance. I do see some top 100 PFs not signed but no idea if we’re working on any of them.
