Shaddy was just hit by ball 4. Is that scored as a hit by pitch or base on balls?
HBP. No matter what the count is!
Ironically, in the pitcher’s totals, it counts as a ball. But it’s still a hit-by-pitch, not a walk. The toughest thing I’ve ever seen is when a hitter tries to get out of the way, turns and his bat is between him and the pitcher. The ball hits the bat. It would have been ball four, or would have hit him in the chest. But since it hit the bat and bounced away (into foul territory), it’s just a foul ball. And, I’ve seen it many times.
