Last year and years past we rushed 4 and dropped 7 into coverage and got our butt handed to us. This year in the 3-4 we are rushing 3 and dropping 8 into coverage in obvious passing downs. Why? Alabama could probably do it with their talent, but we don’t have that type of talent. Kenny Hill had time to text his girlfriend, order a pizza then pick out a receiver. What is the deal? If you are gonna get beat…at least try to knock the quarterback on his butt…rough him up.
Rush him into making a bad decision.
Somebody tell me why this is good. I never see an NFL team do this. They come at the quarterback with everything they have and try to hit him as hard and often as they can. I don’t like this philosophy. If you are gonna get beat, at least go down fighting.
We have no pass rush and very little coverage…not a good combination. On the other hand…I’m sure Kenny Hill enjoyed his time in the pocket. No stress…
I did see four rush quite often. Not always. But I did see three biltzes by Dre Greenlaw. I saw Randy Ramsey come off the edge several times and Dwayne Eugene come off the edge several times. What you must do in the 3-4 is vary the blitz and the fourth rusher. I think you must give a veteran QB something different every time. It definitely is not the same as last year. I thought the variance was much different than last year. So saying same old, same old isn’t right to me. The tackling was better until the defense figured out in the last five minutes that the offense was not going to score. I didn’t like the slump at the end by the defense, but I also understood it.
I didn’t notice the pass rush being very effective. I’ve seen claims that it was by design to force Hill to throw from the pocket. Hill wasn’t very impressive. So, if true, favoring containment over pressure was an effective strategy. The question that I have is whether we will be able to pressure the QB later in the season when we can’t depend on the QB helping us out.

well guys we knew we weren’t good at pass rushing when in practice we werent getting a rush against the 2-3 OL some like swine fusion tried to male a big deal out when their was aa coplaint talking the sky wa falling…we don’t the athletes other than a couple LB’s that can rush the passer…we will have to play more man and come with 6-7 like Bama does.
