Ryne Stanek closes out win for Astros

Houston goes back to the Juice Box with a 3-2 lead after being dead in the water 11 innings ago (eighth inning of game 4). Since then they’ve outscored Boston 16-1 and look like they may be headed back to the World Series – where they will have home field advantage if Atlanta finishes off the Dodgers. Framber Valdez went 8 strong innings after a series where starting pitching was getting chewed up, and Stanek pitched a perfect ninth.

Speaking of ex-Hogs, Drew Smyly is on the mound for the Bravos tonight, coming in in the second inning, and will probably get the win if Atlanta holds onto the current 4-0 lead. Which would put Atlanta up 3-1 with a chance to win the pennant tomorrow night.

Stanek and Smyly have represented the Hogs well tonight. Stanek pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for the Astros. It was not a save since Houston led 9-1, but it was still good. Smyly relieved for the Braves and pitched three no-hit innings (so far).

I was thinking that they played together, but Stanek was a freshman in 2011 and Smyly was already out of school.

Smyly ended up being charged with 2 runs.

And Drew got the win.
