Puerto Vallarta softball tournament

What fun! Will there be any organized tours? I was down there on a sailing trip in June, offseason so rather warm. Highly recommend the Sunday Brunch at Sheraton Buganvilias Vallarta. Reservations mandatory due to popularity.

We are seriously thinking about going to Puerto Vallarta for the tournament. I’ve already made hotel reservations, but want to wait until the schedule is released before making our plane reservations. I hope the schedule is announced soon. We’ve never been to Puerto Vallarta and would welcome any recommendations.

The stadium is just a couple of blocks from the Sheraton Buganvilias (right on the beach). Whether you stay there or not, the Sunday brunch is fantastic. A bit pricey, but the mimosas (inclusive) are non-stop, and the Mariachi band is great. The buffet setup is massive and includes Mexican and American specialties and a grill a d carving station. If you have time, take a bus or cab over to the north side of the Bahía Banderas to the town of La Cruz de Huanacaxtle. Just up the hill from the cross in the middle of town made of huanacaxtle wood is a small ice cream shop. I spent a long time chatting with the proprieter, Hector, on a hot June afternoon just a few months ago. He has travelled widely in the states and is a huge baseball fan. Of course he was informed of the exploits of the Razorback baseball team and to watch for Kevin Kopps in the draft. He wrote Kopps’ name down and said he would be watching. It’s good San Diego took him and he could be relatively close. Also in La Cruz is a small bar, Anna Banana’s, a favorite of cruiser’s from the marina. When I was there it was pretty much empty, being off season, so just chatted with Anna and nursed a Modelo in the heat. Interesting

I would love to go back to PV even without the tourney. That would be a good excuse to do it. There’s so much to do. Excursion out to the islands snorkeling. The fish are beautiful.

Thanks for the information, eurohog. We are trying to decide how long we want to stay. I was excited to discover there are whale watching excursions available in February. Do you think you will be in PV for the tournament? We also plan on going to a few basketball and baseball games back in Fayetteville before we head to Round Rock for the baseball tournament.

Just booked our flights…

Not sure yet. Checking out flight and hotel combos I was surprised to see a hotel made of containers could be booked for 6 nights +RT airfare for about $550. That was the lowest of course. It had good reviews, too. Not the Sheraton, but still… a fraction of the price. My wife is pretty much through with traveling. We lived in Germany for 10 years, saw a lot of Europe then, and then lived in the eastern US for a while. Now she has chickens to tend and a garden, and two dogs we adopted in May. I’ll be on my own if I go. Just meet up with other fans maybe.

It’s been a long time ago (20years), but we really enjoyed Puerto Vallarta. Living in So Florida for 19 years, we went 4 or 5 times to the Mexican Riviera (Cancun, Cozumel, etc). We decided to try the West coast of Mexico and went to Puerto Vallarta for 5 days. It was like being in a different country.

Cancun is all about beaches, snorkeling, and tourism, but enjoyable for a few days. Puerto Vallarta is beautiful, with mountain backdrops inland and beautiful ocean waters. More genuinely Mexican with better food choices.

I’m sure you will enjoy the trip.
