Casey Martin was named a preseason third-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper today, the first of what is sure to be several preseason recognitions for him and his teammates. Martin was listed as a shortstop, which will likely be his everyday position in 2019. Shortstops ahead of him on the list are Stony Brook’s Nick Grande (first team) and North Carolina State’s Will Wilson (second), and he is tied for the third team with UNLV’s Bryson Stott and Clemson’s Logan Davidson.
I’ll update this as accolades and predictions are released in the next several weeks. Collegiate Baseball typically releases a top 40 team ranking before Christmas.
It is about where I figured they would be, either near the bottom or just outside the top 25. They lost the majority of their lineup and more than 300 innings on the mound. To suffer that kind of blow and still be ranked shows the respect the voters have for the program, in my opinion.
One of their biggest draft breaks was getting Ashdown RHP Jaden Hill to campus. He was highly rated largely because of his projection. He is a physical specimen power pitcher kind of guy. He is polished by no means but had a good fall. He set his draft number too high. LSU was not expecting him to make it to campus.
The Box will be a night mare again.
The hogs will have to show it on the field to move up higher in the top 25
It will be an interesting fun season for the diamondhogs!
Arkansas is No. 13 in the Perfect Game top 25 poll that was released yesterday. As a matter of record, we use the coaches’ poll for the newspaper and this website. It is typically released the week that practice begins in late January.
I think there will be great ambiguity about where to rank the Razorbacks this preseason. There are six polls and Collegiate Baseball had them 25th. I wouldn’t be surprised to see at least one poll have the team unranked.
