We’ll start here today since there were a few things of note. Left tackle Colton Jackson and left guard Austin Capps, two projected starters on Arkansas’ offensive line, were absent from today’s practice.
Projected starting safety Kam Curl returned to a white jersey today, which is standard for defensive players. He wore green on Tuesday. Defensive backs coach Ron Cooper said yesterday he wasn’t worried about Curl’s status and that he would be back to the field soon. Cornerback Jarques McClellion remained in green today.
Freshman defensive back Greg Brooks was in green and wearing a black wrap on his left hand/wrist. As Richard posted in yesterday’s notes and observations, Brooks suffered a dislocated thumb in Saturday’s scrimmage.
Freshman tight end Hudson Henry was back in a red jersey, typical for offensive players. Running back A’Montae Spivey was also in green today and left the practice field after running down the sideline following a catch. He looked uncomfortable as he walked into Walker Pavilion and hopped on a stationary bike.
We will speak with Chad Morris around 12:30 p.m. and should have updates on these guys soon.
- Watched quarterbacks Ben Hicks and Nick Starkel throw quite a bit today. Here is a 30-second clip:
Both of them hit their target on 2-of-3 throws. Hicks, who went first in the video, was much more vocal and excitable today than I remember him being the first 10 days of practice.
- Treylon Burks was back at practice today without his knee brace. Receivers, tight ends and running backs all went through a drill, too, in which players quickly spun around to catch a short pass from a staffer, turned back around and sprinted through a pair of tackling dummies. Two more coaches were waiting on the other side of the dummies with blocking shields, which they used to smack players with as they protected the football. The force with which the coaches swung the shields drew a reaction after nearly every rep.
