Rafe Peavey underwent back surgery yesterday after getting hurt during summer workouts. He’s supposed to be back in time for the start of fall camp.

If he does wind up missing the first bit of practice, it could be an opportunity to give Cole Kelley some extra reps. Allen and Peavey were a pretty clear-cut 1 and 2 in the spring, so, with Peavey’s prognosis not being serious, it presents a chance to let Kelley get some extra attention early on. The coaching staff, particularly Enos, is very high on him.

Backs are tricky things. I hope Rafe is OK. Would really hate to see us playing a Frosh or RS Frosh this year, no matter how talented they may be.

Oh, yeah, totally agree. I can’t envision a scenario in which Kelley plays this year. But if they are missing Peavey, it could be a chance to give Cole some extra attention.

They need Rafe’s back to be good to go come September. The OL is far from settled and all it takes is one play to need the backup.
