Agree to disagree.
Oh - as I said in the OP…“I get that some of their grievances have some merit.”
But to trot out a phrase that has become tired…but is none-the-less true…“It’s always about the money”. Maybe not entirely; but money is usually near if not at the top of any list like this.
Now, most of the guys speaking for the group are among the more articulate and will be careful to posture it otherwise. And I have no doubt that some of the other items on their agenda are very important to them as well. But, IMO, to the rank-and-file college athlete across the country reading about this, $$ are flashing in their eyes.
Beyond that, I just think that the timing is very poorly chosen. While one could argue that there’s never a “good time” to rock the boat (so to speak), choosing to point the loaded gun when the entire sport (and, by proxy, ALL other college sports) are in significant distress…well, it shows a lack of ability to assess the entire situation and approach the problem in a reasonable manner.
Ironically, the country is moving toward a more sympathetic position on many of these matters. I think waiting until we get this pandemic behind us…and it’s not a week before reporting date…will find more receptive ears and lead to a better outcome.
Of course, all of the above is just my take on the situation.
