Pac-12 breakup?

At least a possibility if they don’t get a media deal done soon. It’s still likely, but not a given, that they’ll get some combination of ESPN and Amazon for their broadcast rights. But Dennis Dodd at CBS is reporting that the end of the left coast league is a possibility.

Most likely, that would send Oregon and Washington to the B1G; the “Four Corners” schools (AZ, AZ State, Colorado and Utah) to the Big 12, and the rest (Cal, Stanford, Molester State and Wazzu) into a merger with the Mountain West, which might also include SMU.

Getting that league-saving media deal may also require some kind of expansion, which is why the P-12 commish was in Dallas recently checking out SMU. San Diego State is also thought to be a candidate for expansion.

It’s a shame to lose what was once a dominant league. No telling what college football will look like in 20 years. Doubt I’ll be around to see it, but I don’t think I’ll like what it’ll be.

There’s a funny meme going around that shows Howard Cosell talking to the TV camera, microphone in hand, with O.J. Simpson & Bruce Jenner beside him. It has Cosell saying “I just took a trip to the future & you’re not gonna believe the sh** I’m about to tell you.” Funny
